The response of the immune system to a tumor is based on the following conditions:

  1. The presence of a tumor-associated antigen
  2. The uptake and processing of an antigen by cells capable of alerting the immune system
  3. The stimulation and expansion of those T cells recognizing the antigen in specialized areas of the immune system (lymph nodes)
  4. The deployment of immune cells to inactivate or destroy the tumor
