Guide to the Immune System: Immune Response
The response of the immune system to a tumor is based on the following conditions:
- The presence of a tumor-associated antigen
- The uptake and processing of an antigen by cells capable of alerting the immune system
- The stimulation and expansion of those T cells recognizing the antigen in specialized areas of the immune system (lymph nodes)
- The deployment of immune cells to inactivate or destroy the tumor
